GOAL
The Probka Hall store chain was preparing an anniversary edition of the author's wine and turned to us for a unique label
SOLUTION
We took into account the client’s unusual demands and came up with a conceptual and stylish design for the collection
The company decided to celebrate its tenth anniversary with a limited collector's edition. It was compiled from the author's blended autochthonous grape variety called Krasnostop Zolotovsky and from Merlot grown in the Lower Volga region. The term “autochthonous” is synonymous with “aboriginal”, which means the grape originates from a certain area and grows only there.
Such a collection definitely required a special design! We regard label development as an art form.
The client told us an interesting introductory story: “It coincided that my son turned 10 this year. I asked him to draw something funny and he drew Albert Einstein's face with his tongue sticking out. Please use this drawing somehow in the design.” At that moment, we realized that it would be great to capitalize on the historical contrast and create a sheer visual metaphor to "mix" the two grape varieties!
Krasnostop Zolotovsky is an ancient grape from Don. It’s the epitome of Russian winemaking and the industry is proud of it. This sort is considered one of the best in the country. We visualized it as a young dandy who descended from photographs of past centuries. The red boutonniere on his fitted jacket is highlighted with silk-screen printing. His watch chain and the head of his walking stick are embossed with gold foil.
The Merlot label, on the contrary, is lively and energetic, like a boy's drawing. We presented it in the form of a blob drawn by a child's hand. This blob covers the man's face in the photo. We emphasized it with an ultraviolet varnish so that it remains playful and shiny.
Each bottle in the collection was numbered by a professional calligrapher.
